Lanterns Cast Adds The Wire Star, DCU Role Revealed

The Lanterns cast continues to grow, with Deadline reporting that Paul Ben-Victor has been added to the cast of the upcoming HBO series.

Who is Paul Ben-Victor playing in Lanterns?

According to Deadline’s report, Ben-Victor will play the role of Antaan, an extraterrestrial that is “devoted to exposing the truth and exacting vengeance against those who wronged his people.” The character is described as having a “deep and unrelenting hatred for the law,” so he will undoubtedly clash with the Lanterns in some way.

Although there is no character known as Antaan in the Green Lantern comic books, fans have theorized that this character could be an Oan, a race known as the Guardians of the Universe in the comics. In the comics, the Guardians found the Green Lantern Corps, which they run from their homeworld of Oa.

Fans have also speculated that the character could be another mysterious alien from the comics, albeit with a different name. Ben-Victor is best known for his role on HBO’s The Wire, but has also starred in other hit projects like Entourage, My Name is Earl, and more.

Lanterns is led by Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler as John Stewart and Hal Jordan, respectively. Alongside the pair, the series will also star Ulrich Thomsen as Sinestro and includes Kelly Macdonald as Sheriff Kerry, and Jasson Ritter as Kerry’s husband. Poorna Jagannathan will also star in the upcoming series as Zoe.

Lanterns will be executive produced by Chris Mundy (True Detective: Night Country, Ozark), Damon Lindelof (The Leftovers, Watchmen), and Tom King (Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow), with the latter two also co-writing the series.

“The series follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland,” the synopsis reads.
