Ayo Edebiri & Will Sharpe Are Former Prodigies in Apple TV+ Rom-Com

The Bear’s Ayo Edebiri and The White Lotus’ Will Sharpe have been tapped to star as couples in Apple TV+’s new romantic comedy series, Prodigies.

In addition to starring, both Sharpe and Edebiri work behind the camera in the upcoming seven-part series. Sharpe serves as the show’s writer and director, while Edebiri is one of the executive producers.

What is Prodigies about?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Prodigies will center on childhood sweethearts Didi (Edebiri) and Ren (Sharpe) — both former prodigies — as they navigate their early 30s questioning whether or not they’re living up to what was expected from them as children, all while also questioning the current status of their relationship.

The plot description for the upcoming rom-com series reads: “Didi (Edebiri) and Ren (Sharpe) are two ex-child prodigies who have been together since they were children. Now in their early 30s, they are starting to question whether their very ordinary existence is living up to the extraordinary promise of their childhood. Inevitably, they find themselves asking the same questions of their relationship. As individual hopes and needs feed into and conflict with their shared lives, the series challenges the fallacy at the heart of romantic storytelling — that the tale is over when the heroes get together. In life, surely, that is just the beginning?”

Sharpe also joins Edebiri on the executive producer chair, alongside Jane Featherstone, Naomi de Pear, and Katie Carpenter.

Edebiri, best known for her chef Sydney Adamu role in The Bear, can be seen in As of Yet, Theater Camp, Bottoms, The Sweet East, and Omni Loop. She most recently starred in the A24 thriller Opus, opposite John Malkovich.

Sharpe appeared in the second season of The White Lotus as Ethan Spiller. His other credits include Flowers, Defending the Guilty, Giri/Haji, and The White Lotus. He also starred in films, including in Black Pond, The Darkest Universe, and — most recently — A Real Pain.

No release date has been set yet for Prodigies.
