Jon Bernthal’s The Odyssey Look Is Making Him ‘Constantly Made Fun Of’

Jon Bernthal is set to star in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, and recently joked that his look for the film is earning him no love in his house.

What did Jon Bernthal say about The Odyssey?

Bernthal was recently a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live! when he was asked about his appearance in the film.

Bernthal praised Nolan as “one of a kind” to work with, and then joked about his shorter haircut and longer beard, and how it’s affected his personal life.

“He’s one of a kind, and I think you jump at an opportunity to work with somebody like that,” said Bernthal. “Even if he does give you a haircut like the one I’m rocking right now, with the full beard. And you know, from last time we talked, my wife does have this sort of ‘no makeout’ policy with facial hair, so I’m stuck, we went full grizzly with this thing.

“And then when you sort of just add the shaved head, and then the ears pop out, and the nose just somehow gets even bigger, it’s not good. It’s not good, I’m just fully being made fun of in my home.”

“Christopher Nolan’s next film The Odyssey is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology,” Universal said about the upcoming film. “The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026.”

The Odyssey is one of two ancient Greek epic poems attributed to Homer, a Greek poet who is also credited as the author of the Iliad and who is often seen as one of the most influential and important authors in human history.

The Odyssey follows the story of the Greek hero Odysseus, king of Ithaca, as he journeys home after the Trojan War. Presumed dead, Odysseus’ wife Penelope and son Telemachus contend with various suitors who compete for Penelope’s hand in Odysseus’ absence.

The Odyssey is thought to have been written sometime in the 8th or 7th century BC and is one of the most important works in literary history.
