Steve Buscemi Calls Jenna Ortega ‘Down to Earth’ Ahead of Wednesday Season 2 Release

Steve Buscemi, who is set to star in Wednesday Season 2, recently showered praise over co-star and the show’s lead, Jenna Ortega in a recent interview. Buscemi was first reported to have been cast in the second season in April 2024. His involvement was then confirmed in a cast reveal for the second season which was released the following month.

Steve Buscemi praises Jenna Ortega for her acting skills

Steve Buscemi recently interacted with PEOPLE while attending a fundraiser hosted by Exploring the Arts, a non-profit venture founded by Tony Bennett at the Angel Orensanz Foundation. The 67 year-old actor and director explained what it was like working with Jenna Ortega for Wednesday Season 2.

“Oh, she’s great,” Buscemi said. “She’s just, she’s so sharp and funny and down to earth.” The Reservoir Dogs star then called Ortega “a wonderful actress” and “a wonderful scene partner,” noting that she’s “the best.”

Buscemi was cagey about Season 2’s story in the interview. However, he assured that it would be “a great season,” adding that he enjoyed working on it. The actor’s involvement in Wednesday Season 2 was earlier reported by Deadline and Variety in April 2024.

At the time, his exact role was undisclosed, though Variety had reported that Buscemi would assume the role of Nevermore Academy’s new principal. In Season 1, Nevermore Academy’s principal was Larissa Weems, played by Gwendoline Christie. Weems was killed by Christina Ricci’s Laurel Gates/Marilyn Thornhill in the Season 1 finale.

Buscemi’s participation in Season 2 was eventually confirmed in the cast reveal video, released the following month. This video also confirmed that his character was named Barry Dort.

The other new cast members for Wednesday Season 2 include Billie Piper, Evie Templeton, Owen Painter, Noah Taylor, and Thandiwe Newton. Piper will play Capri while Newton will essay the role of Dr. Fairburn.

An exact release date for Wednesday Season 2 has not yet been revealed. However, it is expected to premiere this year.
