Taika Waititi Star Wars Movie Gets Update, Writer Confirmed
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has finally shared a brand new update about the studio’s long-in-development Taika Waititi Star Wars movie. This comes after more than four years since the project was first announced.
What was Kathleen Kennedy’s Taika Waititi Star Wars movie update?
During a recent interview, when asked about the current progress of the Taika Waititi Star Wars movie, Kennedy expressed her confidence about the project, admitting that they’re not really rushing the Oscar-winning filmmaker to get the project done since they believe in Waititi’s creative process.
“Taika is on Taika time… I’ve just continually said to him, look, when you feel that you’re ready and you can really devote the time, we’re going to do it,” She said. “We’ll be waiting… I’m just hoping we get there. That will be a great Star Wars movie.”
In addition, Kennedy also confirmed that Oscar-nominated scribe Tony McNamara has officially signed on to pen the screenplay with Waititi. McNamara is best known for his acclaimed work on movies such as The Favourite, Cruella, and Poor Things. Further details about the Taika Waititi Star Wars movie’s plot and characters are still being kept under wraps.
At the moment, Waititi is currently working on Sony Pictures’ upcoming film adaptation of Klara and the Sun, based on Kazuo Ishiguro’s dystopian sci-fi novel of the same name. The movie will be led by Jenna Ortega, Amy Adams, Natasha Lyonne, and Steve Buscemi. He is also currently attached to produce and write another horror comedy movie titled, We’re Wolves, alongside What We Do in the Shadows collaborator Jemaine Clement.
