War: Ukraine ignoring ceasefire – Russia says as Kyiv signs memorandum with US
The Russian ambassador to the United Nations, UN, Vassily Nebenzia, has accused Ukraine of ignoring the energy ceasefire.
He stated this after a joint statement, with the likes of Slovenia, Denmark, France, Greece, and Britain urging Russia to agree to a full and unconditional ceasefire.
Slovenia’s UN ambassador, Samuel Zbogar, said: “Ukraine wants peace, and has demonstrated this by agreeing to a full, immediate and unconditional ceasefire five weeks ago. At the consultations today, Russia again rejected the comprehensive ceasefire and refused to make its first step towards peace.”
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s economy minister, Yulia Svyrydenko, has said that his country had signed a “memorandum of intent” with the United States of America on a planned “investment fund for the reconstruction of Ukraine”.
President Donald Trump of the United States said they would sign a minerals deal “next Thursday”.
The US treasury secretary, Scott Bessent, also said that a deal was targeted for this weekend.
