Superman prequel novel Welcome to Metropolis gets June 2025 release date
DC will release the prequel novel Superman: Welcome to Metropolis for its upcoming 2025 Superman movie on June 3, 2025 (via Penguin Random House).
Penguin Random House will release the 144-page junior novel, set before the events of James Gunn’s film. Aimed at readers aged 6–9, the book costs $7.99 and is currently available for pre-order on Amazon.
According to the official synopsis, the novel follows Clark Kent as he adjusts to life in Metropolis, starts work at the Daily Planet, and learns to manage his double life as Superman. The story centers around a dangerous mystery linked to Lex Luthor, played in the film by Nicholas Hoult. The book includes “an eight-page full-color insert” with profiles of the film’s main characters.
DC Studios confirmed that the new Superman movie will not be an origin story. Welcome to Metropolis will serve as a narrative bridge introducing elements from Clark Kent’s early days in the city. This marks the first theatrical Superman solo film since 2013’s Man of Steel and the first feature film in the new DCU slate following Creature Commandos.
The film stars David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. The supporting cast includes Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, and several others.
Warner Bros. will release Superman in theaters on July 11, 2025.
