Taron Egerton Crime Drama Smoke Gets Release Date, First Photos
Apple TV+ has revealed the first photos and release date for Smoke, a crime drama starring Taron Egerton.
“Inspired by true events, Smoke follows a troubled detective and an enigmatic arson investigator as they pursue the trails of two serial arsonists,” the official synopsis reads.
The nine-episode series premieres Friday, June 27, 2025, with the first two episodes on Apple TV+. New episodes will release every Friday through August 8.
Who is involved with Taron Egerton in Apple TV+’s Smoke?
Egerton stars as arson investigator Dave Gudsen alongside Jurnee Smollett as police detective Michelle Calderone. Smoke’s ensemble features Rafe Spall, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Hannah Emily Anderson, Anna Chlumsky, Adina Porter, Greg Kinnear, and John Leguizamo.
Smoke is written and created by Dennis Lehane, an American author behind the novels Mystic River, Shutter Island, The Drop, and Live by Night. All four were made into movies, with Lehane writing the screenplays for Mystic River and The Drop.
It’s a reunion for Lehane and Egerton, who collaborated on Black Bird, another crime series for Apple TV+. Egerton received nominations at the Emmys and Golden Globes for his portrayal of Jimmy Keene.
Besides Smoke and Black Bird, Egerton also teamed with Apple TV+ on Tetris, the 2023 movie about the man who secured the rights to distribute the titular video game.
Lehane executive produces Smoke alongside Egerton, Richard Plepler, Bradley Thomas, Dan Friedkin, Kari Skogland, Joe Chappelle, and Jane Bartelme. Skogland, Chappelle, and Jim McKay are directors on the series.
While Smoke is a fictional series, it is inspired by the Firebug podcast from truth.media. Academy Award and Emmy Award winner Kary Antholis hosted Firebug and is an executive producer on Smoke alongside Marc Smerling. Firebug was the original name of the series before being changed to Smoke.
