Sudan paramilitaries killed at least 100 people in Darfur attack – UN

The United Nations, UN, have reported that the Sudanese paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, RSF, carried out a two-day attack on camps for displaced people in the Darfur region.

According to the UN, over 100 people have been killed, including 20 children and nine aid workers.

The UN resident and humanitarian coordinator in Sudan, Clementine Nkweta-Salami, on Saturday revealed that the RSF and allied militias launched an offensive on the Zamzam and Abu Shorouk camps.

They also attacked el-Fasher, the provincial capital of North Darfur province.

In a statement, Nkweta-Salami claimed the attacks happened on Friday and on Saturday.

According to her, the aid workers were killed “while operating one of the very few remaining health posts” in Zamzam camp.

Zamzam and Abu Shouk has been sheltering more than 700,000 people who were forced to flee their homes across Darfur during fighting in the region.

“This represents yet another deadly and unacceptable escalation in a series of brutal attacks on displaced people and aid workers in Sudan since the onset of this conflict nearly two years ago,” Nkweta-Salami said.

“I strongly urge those committing such acts to immediately desist.”
