Forever Trailer Previews Judy Blume-Inspired Netflix Show

Netflix has shared the official Forever trailer for its newest coming-of-age drama, based on Judy Blume‘s classic 1975 novel of the same name. The series is scheduled to make its debut on May 8, 2025.

“I’m thrilled that Mara has chosen to tell this story through her own lens,” Blume said in a statement. “It is gratifying to know that, 50 years after its release, the love story at the core of Forever is still resonating with audiences.”

The video introduces teenagers Keisha and Justin, who becomes each other’s first loves. It highlights the challenges they’ll face, as they try to fight for their relationship. The show will be led by Lovie Simone (Selah and the Spades) and Michael Cooper Jr. (On the Come Up), with Oscar winner Regina King serving as an executive producer.

“Set in Los Angeles, 2018, the series follows an epic love story of two Black teens exploring romance and their identities through the awkward journey of being each other’s firsts,” reads the official logline.

Forever is written and created by showrunner Mara Brock Ali. The cast also includes Karen Pittman, Wood Harris, Xosha Roquemore, Marvin Winans III, Niles Fitch, Barry Shabaka Henley, Ali Gallo, Adriyan Rae, Paigion Walker, Xavier Mills, E’myri Crutchfield, and Yusef Thomas. It is executive produced by Brock Ali, Blume, Susie Fitzgerald, Erika Harrison, Sara White, Reina King, Shana C. Waterman, and Anthony Hemingway.

“I’ve always credited Judy Blume as part of the seasoning of my voice as a writer,” Brock Akil said. “She was one of the first writers I read that dared to be honest about the human condition in young people and you can see traces of her writing style within my own. I’m honored to reimagine one of my favorite books, Forever.”

King added, “Judy Blume’s ability to capture the real emotions we experience during the various rites of passage of our youth influenced my life choices and writing voice.”
