Superman: Marvel’s Yondu Actor Has a Special Cameo No One Spotted

Michael Rooker, known for playing the role of Yondu in Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy movies, has teamed up once again with James Gunn for the upcoming DC movie Superman.

Superman, starring David Corenswet in the title role, will be released in theaters across the globe on July 11, 2025. The reveal of Rooker’s role follows the recent reveal that actor Alan Tudyk plays the role of Robot 4 in Superman.

A sneak peek of James Gunn’s Superman was recently released, which unveiled the identity of Michael Rooker’s role in the movie.

Rooker, who has worked with Gunn on numerous films, has reunited with him to voice one of Superman’s Kryptonian robots. In the Sneak Peek posted on YouTube, an injured Superman is dragged by his dog Krypto to the Fortress of Solitude. Here, Superman is greeted by his robots, who carry him to the treatment table.

As the automatons speak, Robot 4 is voiced by Alan Tudyk. However, at 3 minutes and 9 seconds, Robot 5, who is voiced by Rooker, is heard saying, “Fourteen fractured bones.”

This is the second time Rooker has worked with Gunn on a DC movie. Previously, he took on the role of Savant in Gunn’s 2021 movie The Suicide Squad.

While speaking to Geek House Show in 2022, Rooker was asked whether he felt that there was any difference between Marvel and DC’s filmmaking process. He said, “Oh, from my point of view, it’s the same process. It doesn’t really matter which studio you’re working for, they’re the same.” He added that he had to wear “heavier makeup” for Yondu in GOTG than for Savant in The Suicide Squad.

In November 2023, rumors swirled that Rooker might play the role of Lois Lane’s father, Sam, in Superman. However, Gunn debunked these rumors when asked by a fan on Threads.
