Thunderbolts*: New Details About Bucky’s Congressman Job in MCU Movie Emerge

Bucky Barnes’ political career in the MCU will be short-lived, as revealed by new Thunderbolts* footage from CinemaCon.

Thunderbolts* opens in United States theaters this coming May. The cast of the Marvel Studios movie includes Sebastian Stan as Barnes, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Wyatt Russell as John Walker/U.S. Agent, Olga Kurylenko as Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster, Lewis Pullman as Bob/Sentry David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr/Ghost, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.

In Captain America: Brave New World, it was revealed that Bucky has decided to run for United States Congress. Previously released footage for Thunderbolts* has announced that his efforts are successful, as the former Winter Soldier indeed becomes a congressman.

What did the Thunderbolts* CinemaCon footage reveal about Bucky’s political career?

New footage of Thunderbolts* was shown at CinemaCon in Las Vegas earlier this week. While it hasn’t made its way online yet, the footage, according to IGN, sees Valentina “mocks Bucky’s brief time as a congressman” as she says “it’s embarrassing he only served less than half a term.”

Why Bucky served less than half a term and what caused his exit remains to be seen when Thunderbolts* releases in United States theaters on May 2, 2025.

“In Thunderbolts*, Marvel Studios assembles an unconventional team of antiheroes — Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, Ghost, Taskmaster, and John Walker,” the synopsis for the movie reads. “After finding themselves ensnared in a death trap set by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, these disillusioned castoffs must embark on a dangerous mission that will force them to confront the darkest corners of their pasts. Will this dysfunctional group tear themselves apart, or find redemption and unite as something much more before it’s too late?”

Thunderbolts* is directed by Jake Schreier. Kevin Feige serves as a producer on the movie.
