Avengers: Doomsday: Chris Pratt Gives Star-Lord’s Return Update, Reacts to Missing Chair

Chris Pratt recently addressed his absence from the Avengers: Doomsday casting reveal and confirmed his future as Star-Lord. While promoting his upcoming film Mercy, Pratt reassured fans that Marvel will follow through on its promise of Star-Lord’s return. He also reacted to the missing chair incident during the Doomsday announcement. His comments shed light on his MCU involvement and what lies ahead.

Chris Pratt confirms Star-Lord’s return, but plays coy about Avengers: Doomsday

Speaking with Collider‘s Steve Weintraub, Chris Pratt stated, “I can’t say, for fans of mine, where they’ll see Star-Lord again, but I can tell them we made a promise at the end of [Guardians of the Galaxy] Vol. 3 that the legendary Star-Lord will return, and he will return.”

He appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. The final title card of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 also confirmed Star-Lord’s return.

During the five-hour-long Avengers: Doomsday casting event, Pratt humorously addressed his chair’s absence by saying, “I don’t know! I think it was, like, far off… They must have cut away from it. I don’t know what happened. I don’t know. It was there. I’m sure it was there.”

The casting event revealed names from the Fantastic Four, Anthony Mackie, and Robert Downey Jr. However, the major surprise came with chairs revealing Fox-era X-Men actors such as Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and James Marsden.

Avengers: Doomsday marks Marvel’s first Avengers film since 2019 and will release on May 1, 2026. It remains unknown whether the Avengers and X-Men will align or oppose one another in the storyline.

Chris Pratt will also star in Mercy, a sci-fi thriller directed by Timur Bekmambetov and written by Marco van Belle. The film also features Rebecca Ferguson and Kenneth Choi, among others, and is set to release on January 23, 2026.
