Avatar 3 Trailer Shows Fire and Ash’s 2 New Na’vi Tribes at CinemaCon

Zoe Saldaña, who reprises her role as Neytiri in James Cameron’s Avatar 3, appeared onstage at CinemaCon 2025 to debut an exclusive trailer for the film. The footage was part of Disney’s upcoming feature film slate. It included a taped message from Cameron and a first look at scenes from the sequel. Avatar: Fire and Ash will be released in theaters on December 19, 2025.

At CinemaCon 2025, Disney unveiled exclusive footage from Avatar: Fire and Ash, the third film in James Cameron’s Avatar franchise. Alan Bergman introduced a prerecorded message from Cameron. The director addressed the audience before Zoe Saldaña appeared onstage to present the preview.

The footage featured Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña), and the Sully family. It also showed returning cast member Stephen Lang. Further, the movie features Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet, Oona Chaplin, Jack Champion, Britain Dalton, Cliff Curtis, Trinity Bliss, and Bailey Bass.

The presentation revealed two new Na’vi clans: the volcanic Ash People and the sky-faring Wind Traders. Footage showed the red-skinned Ash People launching an attack on a Wind Trader airship drifting like a hot-air balloon. It highlighted their volcanic homeland and their ability to ignite fire with a snap of their fingers. Another scene depicted Jake Sully and Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang) clashing amid erupting lava, glowing flora, a massive moon, and floating rocks. (via The Direct)

Speaking with French outlet 20 Minutes in 2022, Cameron said, “In Avatar 3, we will do the opposite,” referring to previous films’ portrayal of virtuous Na’vi and villainous humans. He added, “I want to show the Na’vi in a different light because, so far, I have only shown their good sides.” CinemaCon 2025 footage describes the Ash People as “the dark side of the Na’vi,” shaped by volcanic destruction and their rejection of Eywa and the spiritual beliefs of the forest Na’vi.

The film introduces a new human character, portrayed by Michelle Yeoh, who studies Pandora’s alien ecosystem. Disney is expected to release a public trailer around the launch of Thunderbolts* on May 2, 2025.
