Blumhouse has reportedly found the right filmmaker, who will succeed franchise lead Patrick Wilson as the new Insidious 6 director. Originally slated for a 2025 release, the next installment to the blockbuster supernatural horror franchise is now set to arrive in theaters on August 21, 2026.

Besides Insidious 6, Blumhouse is also currently developing a new Insidious spin-off titled, Thread: An Insidious Tale, which was first announced in 2022. Mandy Moore and Kumail Nanjiani have been attached to lead the project since 2023. They are reportedly playing a married couple who travel back in time to prevent their daughter’s death. At the moment, it still has no release date yet.

Who is the Insidious 6 director?

According to entertainment journalist Jeff Sneider, Come Play director Jacob Chase has entered negotiations to helm Insidious 6 for Blumhouse and Screen Gems. Further details about the project’s plot and characters are being kept under wraps. Besides Insidious 6, Chase is also expected to direct Ke Huy Quan in the upcoming horror movie Bad Boy, which will see the Oscar winner playing a villain for the first time.

Should Chase’s deal get finalized, he would be succeeding Patrick Wilson, who previously directed 2023’s Insidious: The Red Door. Despite the latest sequel’s mixed reviews, it still became the franchise’s highest-grossing installment to date with a worldwide gross of over $189 million at the box office.

The franchise first began with 2011’s Insidious, which was directed by James Wan. It was a major success, earning generally positive reviews from critics and audiences and scaring up just under $100 million at the box office. Its success not only helped revive Wan and writer Leigh Whannell’s careers, but also helped Blumhouse Productions to reach new heights.
