Armie Hammer’s The Dark Knight Gets New Title After ‘Friendly’ Talk With Warner Bros.
Armie Hammer and Uwe Boll’s The Dark Knight movie has been given a new title.
In January 2025, it was announced that Armie Hammer, who has been the subject of much social media controversy after he was accused of sexual misconduct, was making his acting comeback with The Dark Knight. Hammer has not starred in a movie since 2022’s Death on the Nile, though he’s also working on another project, Frontier Crucible, directed by Travis Mills.
Directed by Uwe Boll, the film has no relation to Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight, the Batman movie released in 2008 starring Christian Bale and Heath Ledger.
What is the new title of Armie Hammer’s The Dark Knight?
Per Variety, Boll and Hammer’s The Dark Knight movie has now been renamed to Citizen Vigilante.
Boll said, “We had a very friendly conversation with Warner Bros. and decided to change our title to Citizen Vigilante to avoid any confusion with Warners’ famous character.”
Executive producer Michael Roesch added, “We also got a lot of feedback from fans, who asked us to change the title because of its similarity with Chris Nolan’s movie, so this was another factor in changing the title.”
Roesch also said the discussion with Warner Bros. was “very amicable.”
Hammer plays Sanders in Citizen Vigilante, a “man who takes justice into his own hands and sets out to hunt down criminals. His vigilante crusade turns him into a social media sensation and a hero in the eyes of the public.” Costas Mandylor also stars in the film as a character named Henry.
“It is set in an Eastern European city, and while we don’t mention the name of the city in the movie, people who know the city will recognize it is Zagreb, so it is set in Croatia,” Roesch said. “But it is a universal story and could play in every bigger European city.”
A release date for Citizen Vigilante has not yet been announced, though Roesch said he expects the movie to be “locked in a few weeks.”
