Lanterns Cast Adds Bass Reeves Actor to HBO DC Series
HBO has officially welcomed a new guest star to the Lanterns cast for the upcoming DC series, which will be led by Aaron Pierre (Krypton) as John Stewart and Emmy winner Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights) as Hal Jordan. It is expected to make its debut sometime in 2026.
“The series follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland,” reads the official logline.
Who is joining the Lanterns cast?
Chris Coy (Law Men: Bass Reeves, The Peripheral) has been tapped for the guest-starring role of Waylon Sanders, who’s described as “an intelligent survivor or a nervous truck driver. Age and real name unknown, he’s unbound by the laws of nature.” Coy will also be joining previously announced cast members Kelly MacDonald as Kerry, Garret Dillahunt as William Macon, Poorna Jagannathan as Zoe, Ulrich Thomsen as Sinestro, Jasmine Cephas Jones as young Bernadette, Sherman Augustus as John Sr., J. Alphonse Nicholson as a young John Sr., Jason Ritter as Billy Macon, and Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner. The latter will first appear in James Gunn’s Superman movie.
Lanterns is executive produced by showrunner Chris Mundy (True Detective: Night Country, Ozark), Damon Lindelof (The Leftovers, Watchmen), and Tom King (Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow), with the latter two also co-writing the series. The directing line-up consists of James Hawes, Stephen Williams, Geeta Vasant Patel, and Alik Sakharov. The show received an official straight-to-series-order at HBO last June 2024, more than a year since the 8-episode project was first announced back in January 2023.
