What is the Dexter: Original Sin Season 2 update?

Per The Hollywood Reporter, the Dexter prequel series has received a second season at Paramount+ with Showtime. Clyde Phillips will once again serve as the showrunner. A writer’s room for the new season will begin soon.

Patrick Gibson stars as a young Dexter Morgan, who begins his transformation into a serial killer while working for the Miami Metro Police Department. Christian Slater plays Dexter’s father, Harry, who guides him through this transition.

The Season 1 synopsis reads: “Set in 1991 Miami, Dexter: Original Sin follows Dexter (Gibson) as he transitions from student to avenging serial killer. When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness. With the guidance of his father, Harry (Slater), he adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcement’s radar. This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.”

Dexter: Original Sin’s ensemble includes Molly Brown, Christina Milian, James Martinez, Alex Shimizu, Reno Wilson, special guest star Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Patrick Dempsey.

Michael C. Hall, who originated the role of Dexter on the Showtime series, voices the iconic inner monologue in Dexter Morgan’s head.

Phillips serves as the showrunner and executive producer on Dexter: Original Sin. Additional executive producers include Hall, Scott Reynolds, Mary Leah Sutton, Tony Hernandez, and Lilly Burns. Robert Lloyd Lewis is the producer, while Michael Lehmann is the directing executive producer.

Dexter: Original Sin is the prequel to Dexter, the hit Showtime series that ran for eight seasons from 2006 to 2013. In 2021, the series continued in the sequel, Dexter: New Blood, with Hall returning in the titular role. A sequel to New Blood, Dexter: Resurrection, is currently in production and will premiere this summer on Paramount+ with Showtime
