Coyote vs. Acme Saved, New Distributor Issues Statement on Looney Tunes Movie

Director Dave Green’s long-delayed Looney Tunes movie Coyote vs. Acme has officially found a new home at Ketchup Entertainment. This comes after more than a year since Warner Bros. Discovery decided to shelved the completed live-action/animated hybrid film as part of its cost-cutting measures. In return for cancelling its release, the company took a $30 million tax write-off instead.

Since March 19, 2024, Ketchup Entertainment has been in negotiations with Warner Bros. to acquire the rights to Coyote vs. Acme. Today, they have finally reached an agreement, with Ketchup Entertainment officially obtaining the worldwide distribution rights to the long-awaited Looney Tunes movie. According to a previous report, the deal reportedly cost around $50 million.

What did the Ketchup Entertainment boss say about the Coyote vs. Acme acquisition?

“We’re thrilled to have made a deal with Warner Bros. Pictures to bring this film to audiences worldwide,” Ketchup Entertainment CEO, Gareth West said in a statement. “Coyote vs. Acme is a perfect blend of nostalgia and modern storytelling, capturing the essence of the beloved Looney Tunes characters while introducing them to a new generation. We believe it will resonate with both longtime fans and newcomers alike.”

This isn’t the first time that Ketchup Entertainment has saved a Looney Tunes movie. The company recently released the sci-fi animated comedy The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie in theaters after its world premiere at the 2024 Annecy International Animation Film Festival. Prior to this, it was originally supposed to debut on Max.

Coyote vs. Acme is directed by Green from a screenplay written by Sam Burch. The film is led by Will Forte, John Cena, Lana Condor, P.J. Byrne, Tone Bell, and Martha Kelly, with Eric Bauza voicing multiple Looney Tunes characters. It is produced by Chris deFaria and James Gunn.

“The film centers on Wile E. Coyote as he takes legal action against the Acme Corporation for the countless faulty products that have hindered his relentless pursuit of the Road Runner,” reads the official synopsis.
