Snow White Remake Budget Was Way Higher Than Reported
Since making its theatrical debut last week, Disney‘s live-action Snow White remake continues to show an underwhelming performance at the box office. At the moment, the film has earned a total gross of over $94 million at the global box office, which is still a long away to go before it breaks even with its budget.
What was the Snow White remake budget?
Prior to its release, it was initially reported the Snow White remake had a budget of $270 million. However, according to a new report, Disney actually spent way much more than was what previously stated, revealing that the Rachel Zegler-led movie’s real cost was around $350 million. This means that Disney is on track to loose more money with its latest effort to remake classic Disney animated movies into live-action. Despite the receiving backlash for her controversial comments about the original 1937 film and recent political statements, Zegler’s leading performance was still praised by some critics.
“Disney’s Snow White is a live-action musical reimagining of the classic 1937 film. The magical music adventure journeys back to the timeless story with beloved characters Bashful, Doc, Dopey, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, and Sneezy,” reads the synopsis.
The film was based on the studio’s first animated classic, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which debuted over 80 years ago and began Disney’s success with animated films. The original was also inspired by the 1812 German fairy tale written by the Brothers Grimm. It was directed and produced by Marc Webb from a screenplay by Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson
