Melissa Barrera Defends Rachel Zegler, Calls Out Recent Reports

Melissa Barrera has taken to social media to show support for Rachel Zegler after recent reports painted the Snow White star’s social media posts as a reason for the film underperforming.

What did Melissa Barrera say about Rachel Zegler?

In a recent series of Instagram posts on her Instagram Stories, Barrera first shared a post that described Variety’s report on behind-the-scenes issues Disney had with Zegler as a “hit piece.” The post says that Variety’s report attempted to show Zegler as “difficult and politically radical,” but instead makes her seem “cool as hell and full of integrity.”

Along with the co-sign, Barrera also shared an image of four separate Variety stories, all written by the same journalist. The first three stories are previous Variety reports on Barrera’s own openness on social media on political issues, specifically her support for Palestine over the past few years.

The last story highlighted in the post is the recent story written about Zegler. Fans online were also quick to point out the same person wrote various stories about how Barrera was viewed as divisive following her social media posts, ones that led to Barrera being fired from Scream 7.

Barrera is no stranger to reports on her political stances being written. In 2024, Spyglass Media Group fired Melissa Barrera from the franchise for speaking out against the Israel and Palestine conflict. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Barrera recalled what a tough time it was in the moment.

“It’s definitely hard, because I was just in such a cloudy state of mind, but I was very fortunate,” said Barrera. “I had a lot of support from the people around me: my team and specifically my publicists — they just carried me.”
