Live-Action Scooby-Doo Show Ordered at Netflix, Episode Count Revealed

What’s new, Scooby-Doo? Netflix’s gonna follow you.

The streaming giant has given a series order for a live-action Scooby-Doo series, which will consist of eight episodes. It will be based on one of the most popular characters of all time, the titular cowardly yet loving Great Dane Scooby-Doo.

The character, as well as his human friends, has been a pop culture staple for decades. The iconic franchise boasts a number of animated shows, theatrical features, and home entertainment movies. Now, a new Scooby-Doo series for fans across many generations will soon be available on Netflix.

What will the live-action Scooby-Doo show be about?

Similar to the previous Scooby-Doo projects, Netflix’s upcoming series — based on characters created by Hanna-Barbera — will see Mystery Inc. embark on a slew of mysteries. It is also set to uncover how the team, along with their beloved Great Dane, first teamed up together to solve mystery cases.

Netflix’s plot description for the live-action Scooby-doo show reads as follows:

“A modern reimagining of the iconic mystery-solving group of teens and their very special dog. During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder. Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”

Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg serve as the project’s writers and showrunners and will also executive produce alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, André Nemec, and Jeff Pinkner.

The project marks Netflix’s latest attempt to produce a live-action version of a beloved animated franchise, following Death Note, Cowboy Bebop, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and One Piece.

The cast for Netflix’s new series has yet to be announced.
