The Last of Us Season 2 Will Feature a Bill & Frank-Style Episode
The Last of Us Season 2 showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann have confirmed that the next installment will once again feature an episode similar to Season 1’s iconic Bill and Frank episode. The episode will reportedly center around the character of Eugene Linden, who’s set to be played by The Sopranos alum Joe Pantoliano. In the original video game, Eugene was introduced as one of the patrolmen for the Jackson community. He was also close friends with Ellie’s love interest Dina.
Showrunners tease Bill & Frank-like episode in The Last of Us Season 2
During a recent press conference, Mazin and Druckmann described Season 2’s special episode as “gorgeous,” clarifying that even though it feels similar to their acclaimed Bill and Frank story from Season 1, it will still be different from it. The Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett-led episode titled “Long, Long Time” remains one of Season 1’s most memorable episodes. Offerman’s performance won him an Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor, while Bartlett was also nominated in the same category.
“One thing that Neil and I talked about was just making sure that we didn’t just say, ‘Oh, like the Bill and Frank episode. People really like that. Let’s do a very special episode of The Last of Us season 2,'” Mazin said. “It just has to happen as it happens. But I will say that there is a gorgeous episode in the season, directed by Neil, that is different — it’s not Bill and Frank, but it is, in its own way, its own thing, because it needed to be and just you wait. Just you wait.”
The Last of Us stars Pedro Pascal as Joel, Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Gabriel Luna as Tommy Miller, and Rutina Wesley as Maria. Season 2 will be based on Naughty Dog’s acclaimed video game sequel, The Last of Us Part II, which features a significant time jump introducing a now grown-up Ellie. The next installment has also welcomed new cast members to the acclaimed horror drama, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Young Manzino as Jesse, Isabela Merced as Dina, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, and Danny Ramirez as Manny, with guest star Catherine O’Hara.
Season 2 will premiere on April 13 on HBO.
