Jennifer Lopez Musical Kiss of the Spider Woman Gets Release Date Window

A release date window for Kiss of the Spider Woman has been set.

Kiss of the Spier Woman is a new movie based on the stage musical of the same name by Terrence McNally, John Kander, and Fred Ebb. The musical itself is an adaptation of a 1976 novel by Manuel Puig, which was previously turned into a 1985 Brazilian movie starring William Hurt.

When is the release date window for Kiss of the Spider Woman?

Roadside Attractions, Lionsgate, and LD Entertainment have acquired the movie for North American distribution. It will be released in United States movie theaters this coming fall.

The film stars Jennifer Lopez and Diego Luna, both of whom also serve as executive producers. Additionally, Carry-On’s Tonatiuh plays a character named Molina in Kiss of the Spider Woman.

“Set in Argentina in 1983, with the country’s military dictatorship waging a brutal war against its political opponents, prisoners Valentín (Luna) and Molina (Tonatiuh) find themselves thrown together in a cramped cell,” a description of the movie reads. “Initially at odds, they begin to bond as Molina narrates the story of his favorite movie, Kiss of the Spider Woman. A colorful fantasia of song and dance starring screen siren Ingrid Luna (Lopez), the film follows a woman attempting to outrun a mythical predator who kills with her kiss. Jointly visualizing the dazzling Technicolor adventure, the men escape the indignities of confinement, and their shared experience leads them toward hope, grace, and connection.”

The movie is written and directed by Bill Condon, who previously wrote the screenplay for 2002’s Chicago before he went on to helm projects such as 2006’s Dreamgirls, both of the Breaking Dawn Twilight Saga movies, 2017’s Beauty and the Beast, and more.

“All of us who made this film believe it needs to be experienced in a theatre, so we’re grateful and excited to be partnering with the very talented folks at Roadside Attractions, Lionsgate Studios, and LD Entertainment to make that happen,” Condon said in a statement. “On a personal note, this feels like a homecoming – Lionsgate picked up Gods and Monsters out of Sundance in 1998, and I’ve worked with them and Roadside on three other films since then.”
