Harry Potter’s Jason Isaacs Picks Surprising Actor for Lucius Malfoy
With the cast for HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series steadily taking shape, Jason Isaacs, who portrayed Lucius Malfoy in the original films, has revealed his choice for his successor. The highly anticipated series is reportedly in talks to add Paapa Essiedu (as Severus Snape) and Janet McTeer (as Minerva McGonagall) to the cast, along with John Lithgow (as Albus Dumbledore), who has been confirmed. More updates on the official cast are expected to be revealed in the coming days. While most enlisted actors share some resemblance with their big-screen counterparts, The White Lotus star seems to be leaning toward a total revamp of his Harry Potter character, considering the fact that he wants Meryl Streep to take on the role of Lucius Malfoy.
Jason Isaacs wants Meryl Streep to replace him as Lucius Malfoy in Harry Potter series
In a recent discussion, Jason Isaacs expressed his desire to see Meryl Streep step into the shoes of Draco Malfoy’s father, Lucius, in the forthcoming Harry Potter series.
While speaking with Variety, Isaacs was questioned about the actor he’d like to see portray the cunning Lucius Malfoy. He instantly replied, “Meryl Streep. She can do anything, that woman. There’s literally no limit to what she can do.”
Jason Isaacs also remarked that he does not want to share guidelines with the person who will eventually take on the mantle of the Malfoy patriarch in the Harry Potter series, as the drafted actors already have immense capabilities of their own. “I wouldn’t have any advice at all. Why would I bother? I know some of the people they’re casting already. They’re brilliant actors,” he stated. Isaacs then took a jab at his age by adding, “It’s going to be fantastic, and the last thing they need is advice from some old fart like me.”
Despite the excitement surrounding the series, HBO has yet to assign an official release date to the Harry Potter reboot. But recent reports suggest that the show could see the light of day sometime in 2027.
