Adamawa Emirate inaugurates committee for anniversary commemoration

The Lamido of Adamawa, Muhammadu Barkindo Musdafa, has inaugurated a 19-member steering committee to organise a commemoration of the Fombina Royal Dynasty’s legacies.

The Fombina Dynasty refers to the Adamawa Emirate, the foremost first-class kingdom in Adamawa State, whose king, the Lamido, serves as the chairman of the state’s Council of Chiefs.

The commemoration is planned to celebrate the emirate’s contributions to Nigeria’s evolution and development since its establishment in 1809.

The inauguration of the commemoration committee took place on Saturday at the council chamber of the Lamido’s palace in Yola, where the monarch explained that the initiative is being spearheaded by the Royal Historians Foundation of Nigeria, in collaboration with the Adamawa Emirate Council.

The chairman of the steering committee and grand patron of the Royal Historians Foundation of Nigeria, who is also the Emir of Zazzau, Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, pledged full commitment to the initiative.

Among the planned activities for the commemoration are a book launch on the Fombina Dynasty, the Lamido’s Crystal Jubilee, a seminar on 19th-century scholarly works, a museum exhibition, and a horse racing competition.

Membership of the 19-member committee includes traditional and academic leaders from across Northern Nigeria, including the co-chairman, the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar; deputy chairman, Malam Mustafa Aminu, Galadima Adamawa; along with other senior traditional titleholders, historians, and scholars.
