Teenage mother arrested for alleged infanticide in Borno state

The Nigerian Police Force in Borno State has arrested a 17-year-old girl, Fatima Adamu, from Gamari Village, Niger Republic, on suspicion of infanticide after her newborn baby was found dead.

According to reports, the incident occurred on March 21, 2025, at about 8:00 a.m. when Fatima Adamu gave birth to a healthy male child. However, concerns arose when a witness, Fanna Modu from Chinguluski Village, noticed that the baby had stopped crying shortly after birth and was found lifeless.

Counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama revealed the development on his X handle, stating that police detectives visited the scene, and an initial examination of the infant’s body showed no visible signs of violence. The baby’s remains were taken to the General Hospital in Damasak for further medical evaluation to determine the cause of death.

A police source confirmed that Fatima Adamu has been taken into custody and is currently undergoing interrogation as investigations continue.

The police have assured the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death.
