Shemar Moore Reacts to SWAT Cancellation, Asks Netflix To Save Show
Ahead of CBS‘s 2025-2026 schedule, the network has renewed nine shows. Among them are NCIS and its two spinoffs, Origins and Sydney. Additionally, Fire Country and its spinoff, Sheriff Country, also got the renewal treatment. Unfortunately, the network has axed the long-running series SWAT for the third time. Its star, Shemar Moore, was quick to react to the cancellation and asked Netflix to save the show.
CBS has a history of going back and forth on whether or not to keep renewing SWAT. Following the squad of the LAPD, everything was smooth sailing for six seasons. Then in May 2023, CBS decided that season six would be the last. But in a twist of events, the network announced a few days later that season seven would, indeed, be SWAT’s final season.
In April 2024, CBS changed its mind again and renewed the action-drama series for an eighth season. In the past, to avoid the two cancellations, the network, Sony Pictures TV, and CBS Studios worked out a license fee deal. This kept the television reboot up and running. But, it looks like the series’ third life won’t be revived. CBS confirmed yesterday that season eight of SWAT would be the last.
What did Shemar Moore say about SWAT’s cancellation?
Shemar Moore has not only had a long history with SWAT but with the CBS network in general. With roles in shows like Criminal Minds and The Young and the Restless, this has forced the actor to reflect on the “new chapter” of his life. In an Instagram reel, Moore made sure to express his disappointment in his show’s cancellation and suggested an idea for a revival:
“Hey Netflix, how you doing? Let me just remind you that in a very short period of time, once upon a time ago. Not too long ago, it only took us about two weeks to go from number 15 … to number 1. Then we stayed in your top 10-15 for about six months, nine months, maybe a year. So Netflix, if you’re interested in a show that is on autopilot that the world is watching, we would love to come play. NBC, Fox, ABC, hey, you want to come flirt with me? You’re invited to the barbecue. Pick your favorite restaurant. I will pay the bill.”
Netflix has saved canceled shows before. Fan-favorite series like Lucifer, Designated Survivor, and Arrested Development got the ax by their networks. The streaming service then granted fans’ wishes and brought them back. Hopefully, the same goes for SWAT. You can watch Shemar Moore’s Instagram reel in full below:
Make sure to continue watching the CBS series SWAT every Friday at 8 pm, with its final episode on May 16th.
