The Brutalist’s Adrien Brody Breaks Guinness World Record for World’s Longest Oscar Speech
Despite promising that he would be brief, Adrien Brody has set the Guinness World Record for the world’s longest Oscar speech.
On Sunday, March 2, 2025, Brody won the Best Actor Academy Award for his performance as László Tóth in A24 and Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist. This was Brody’s second time winning Best Actor, as he also took home the Oscar for his performance in 2002’s The Pianist.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Brody’s acceptance speech at the Oscars lasted for five minutes and 40 seconds. This beats the record previously held by Greer Garson, who spoke for five minutes and 30 seconds after winning for Mrs. Miniver in 1943.

What did Adrien Brody say during his Oscar speech?
After spitting out his gum, Brody came on stage and quickly noted that “they’re already counting me down.” He proceeded to thank “every individual that has treated [him] with respect and appreciation.”
“Acting is a very fragile profession,” he said. “It looks very glamorous and, in certain moments, it is. But the one thing I’ve gained, having the privilege to come back here, is to have some perspective. No matter where you are in your career, no matter what you’ve accomplished, it can all go away. I think what makes this night most special is the awareness of that and the gratitude that I have to still do the work that I love.”
When the music began to play, Brody asked them to turn it off, saying that “he’s done this before” and that he’s “wrapping up.”
“I’m here once again to represent the lingering traumas and repercussions of war and systematic oppression, and of anti-semitism, and racism, and of othering, and I believe that I pray for a healthier and happier, and a more inclusive world,” he continued. “I believe if the past can teach us anything, it’s a reminder to not let hate go unchecked.”
He then concluded, “Okay, I’ll get out of here. I love you, I appreciate you all. Let’s fight for what’s right. Keep smiling, keep loving one another. Let’s rebuild together. Thank you.”
