Police arrest two suspected phone thieves in Kano
The Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspects allegedly involved in the theft and resale of mobile phones at Beirut phone market.
The command’s spokesman, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Monday. According to him, traders at the market apprehended one of the suspects, Tasi’u Ibrahim, a resident of Sheka, while he was allegedly attempting to steal a phone inside a shop. However, his accomplice managed to flee the scene with the stolen device.
Following police investigations, officers later arrested Abduljabbar Musa Sheka, who is suspected of being the receiver and reseller of the stolen phones. Both suspects are currently in police custody and will face prosecution upon completion of the investigation.
The police have urged shop owners who have fallen victim to similar thefts to come forward and report their cases.
Phone theft has been a persistent challenge in major markets across Kano, with traders frequently calling for stronger security measures.
