Kwara: New controller urges govt to relocate Oke-Kura Custodial Centre in Ilorin
Famuwagun Oyediran, the new controller of the Nigeria Correctional Service, NCS, in Kwara State, has raised concerns about the current location of the Oke-Kura Custodial Centre in Ilorin, the state capital.
Speaking during a visit to the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Mamman Saba Jibril, in Ilorin on Wednesday, Famuwagun said the facility is overpopulated, creating a precarious situation that threatens the health of the inmates.
He appealed to the state government to relocate the custodial facility to a larger site that could better accommodate its needs.
The new controller, however, acknowledged the support of the state government, particularly the drilling of boreholes at the Oke-Kura Custodial Centre, which has significantly eased the burden of water provision.
In response, Professor Mamman pledged the government’s continued support for the state command of the Nigeria Correctional Service.
The Secretary to the State Government commended the mutual working relationship between the government and the state command of the correctional service, assuring that the government would not waver in its support and assistance to facilitate operations in the state.
Professor Mamman also promised that the government would consider the controller’s requests to enhance service delivery, according to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Murtala Atoyebi, in Ilorin on Wednesday
