New Avatar: Fire and Ash Photo Offers First Look at Ash Village
A new Avatar: Fire and Ash photo is out, showcasing the Ash Village, the home of the Mangkwan Clan, a group that lives in a barren wasteland that stands in contrast to the lush parts of Pandora.
The new photo comes courtesy of Empire Magazine, and showcases the Ash Village in its entirety. Judging by the photo, it’s an imposing place, houses inside a rocky terrain and surrounded by nothing but barren wasteland.
According to production designer Dylan Cole in an interview, the Ash Clan had a natural disaster befall their community, and as a result, their culture and home were shaped by it, and stand in stark contrast to what fans of the franchise have seen in Pandora so far.
“[The Mangkwan] had a natural disaster befall them, and that sort of helped shaped their culture,” Cole said. “So much of the world of Pandora is rich and vibrant and full of life — this is just the exact opposite. They used to live not too dissimilarly to the Omatikaya from Avatar 1.”

What do we know about Avatar: Fire and Ash?
Avatar: Fire and Ash is once again directed by Cameron, who co-wrote the screenplay with Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. The ensemble cast includes returning stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, and Joel David Moore, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, Jack Champion, Bailey Bass, Edie Falco, and more.
Cameron previously said that the upcoming sequel will explore “different cultures from those I have already shown. The fire will be represented by the ‘Ash People.’ I want to show the Na’vi from another angle because, so far, I have only shown their good sides.”
“In the early films, there are very negative human examples and very positive Na’vi examples,” he continued. “In Avatar 3, we will do the opposite. We will also explore new worlds, while continuing the story of the main characters. I can say that the last parts will be the best. The others were an introduction, a way to set the table before serving the meal.”
