Zamfara: 17 Almajiri students die in fire incident
At least 17 students of an Almajiri school have lost their lives in a fire outbreak that engulfed their school in Kauran Namoda, Zamfara State.
This was made known on Wednesday in a post on X by Zagazola Makama, a Lake Chad Basin counterterrorism and insurgency expert.
The tragic incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday night.
Makama said intelligence sources informed him that the incident lasted for about three hours before it was brought under control.
According to the report, scores of students sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical attention.
“Eyewitnesses described the fire as devastating, noting that efforts to contain it were hampered by its intensity.
“Local authorities and emergency responders arrived at the scene to provide assistance, but the inferno had already caused severe casualties,” Makama said.
