Zac Efron Kidnaps Will Ferrell in Amazon MGM Studios’ Upcoming Comedy Movie

Zac Efron and Will Ferrell have been cast in a new, still untitled comedy movie for Amazon MGM Studios.

The new Amazon MGM Studios movie is written and directed by Nicholas Stoller, who recently made You’re Cordially Invited with Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon.

Per Deadline, the movie “follows a young convict (Efron) fresh out of prison who takes a reality TV courtroom hostage blaming the megalomaniac TV judge (Ferrell) for a past ruling that the convict feels ruined his life.”

Further plot details remain under wraps at this time.

What else do we know about the new Will Ferrell and Zac Efron comedy?

The movie is being produced by Stoller for Stoller Global Solutions and Ferrell for Gloria Sanchez Productions alongside Jessica Elbaum and Alex Brown.

Along with You’re Cordially Invited, Stoller’s filmography includes 2008’s Forgetting Sarah Marshall, 2010’s Get Him to the Greek, 2012’s The Five-Year Engagement, 2014’s Neighbors, 2016’s Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, 2016’s Storks, and 2022’s Bros. Stoller has also worked on the screenplays for 2008’s Yes Man, 2011’s The Muppets, 2014’s Sex Tape, 2016’s Zoolander 2, 2017’s Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, 2019’s Dora and the Lost City of Gold, and more.

Having starred in Stoller’s two Neighbors movies, Efron recently played Dean in Amazon MGM Studios’ Ricky Stanicky, which was released in 2024 and directed by Peter Farrelly. He also recently appeared in 2023’s The Iron Claw and 2014’s A Family Affair, while he’ll soon be seen in Jody Hill’s Famous alongside Phoebe Dynevor and Nicholas Braun.

Ferrell, meanwhile, recently appeared in the new documentary film Will & Harper and voiced Maxime Le Mal in 2024’s Despicable Me 4 in addition to You’re Cordially Invited, which is now available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

A release date for the new Amazon MGM Studios comedy with Ferrell and Efron has not yet been announced.
