September 5 Digital & Blu-ray Release Dates Set for Acclaimed Movie

Paramount Home Entertainment has announced the September 5 digital and Blu-ray release dates for its latest historical drama about the 1972 Munich Summer Olympics hostage crisis. Since its theatrical debut, the film has received a Certified Fresh rating of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes.

When is the September 5 digital & Blu-ray release dates?

September 5 will be available to rent or own on digital platforms starting tomorrow, February 4. It will then be followed by its Blu-ray release on Feburary 18. At the moment, the film is nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.

The film was directed Tim Fehlbaum from a screenplay he co-wrote with Alex David and Moritz Binder. The cast includes John Magaro, Peter Sarsgaard, Ben Chaplin, Leonie Beneschv, Zinedine Soualem, Georgina Rich, Corey Johnson, Marcus Rutherford, Daniel Adeosun, Benjamin Walker, and Ferdinand Dörfler. It was produced by Fehlbaum, Philipp Trauer, Sean Penn, John Ira Palmer, and John Wildermuth, with Martin Moszkowicz and Christoph Müller executive producing.

“Set during the 1972 Munich Summer Olympics, it follows an American Sports broadcasting team that quickly adapted from sports reporting to live coverage of the Israeli athletes taken hostage,” reads the synopsis. “Through this lens, September 5 provides a fresh perspective on the live broadcast seen globally by an estimated one billion people at the time. At the heart of the story is Geoff, a young and ambitious producer striving to prove himself to his boss, the legendary TV executive Roone Arledge. Together with German interpreter Marianne and his mentor Marvin Bade, Geoff unexpectedly takes the helm of the live coverage. As narratives shift, time ticks away, and conflicting rumors spread, with the hostages’ lives hanging in the balance, Geoff grapples with tough decisions while confronting his own moral compass.”
