Fire claims lives of principal, wife, children
The Vice Principal of Dugja Bayan Tasha Junior Secondary School in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, along with his wife and three children, tragically lost their lives to a fire incident at their home.
The cause of the fire, which occurred on Sunday, remains unclear, though neighbors have shared accounts of the family’s desperate struggle to escape the flames. According to one source, the fire started in the living room, blocking all exit routes.
“We suspect an electrical spark in the living room ignited the fire, which quickly spread throughout the house. It was a devastating incident. I was told that Malam Aliyu Mohammed and his family fought to escape but were overcome by smoke and hindered by the burglar bars,” said a resident, Kabiru Musa.
The Southern Borno Progressive Union expressed their condolences in a statement, describing the tragedy as a profound loss for both the community and the education sector in Borno State.
“We extend our deepest sympathies following the heartbreaking death of Aliyu Mohammed, the Vice Principal of Dugja Bayan Tasha JSS, and his family. His selfless service and dedication have made a significant impact on education in the state. This loss is felt deeply by all,” the statement read.
