Bauchi Police commences enforcement of third-party vehicle insurance policy

The Bauchi State Police Command has begun enforcing the Third-Party Vehicle Insurance Policy across the state, following directives from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.

The enforcement, which took effect on Saturday, aims to ensure compliance with insurance regulations to enhance road safety.

Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad, therefore urged all police personnel involved in the exercise to maintain professionalism and integrity.

He warned that any misconduct during the enforcement process would have serious consequences, emphasizing the importance of public trust in policing.

According to a statement made available by the Spokesman of the Command, Ahmed Wakil, the initiative is in line with Section 68 of the Insurance Act and Sections 1 to 3 of the Motor Vehicle (Third-Party Insurance) Act, which mandates that all vehicle owners secure at least a minimum of Third-Party Insurance before operating their vehicles on Nigerian roads.

Wakil stated that to ensure effective enforcement, a dedicated team comprising Divisional Traffic Officers, DTOs, representatives from the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, and officials from the Bauchi State Internal Revenue Service will be actively involved.

The Command called on all vehicle owners in the state to ensure their insurance documents are valid, contributing to safer roads and compliance with legal requirements.
