Edo Security Corps arrest 3 suspected kidnappers in Uromi
Operatives of the Edo State Security Corp have arrested three suspected kidnappers in Uromi, the administrative headquarters of Esan North East Local Government Area.
Waploaded reports that the Commander of the Corp, Friday Ibadin, a retired Commissioner of Police disclosed this to newsmen on Friday in Benin City.
Ibadin gave the names of the suspects as Asene Ogah, 49, Ibhafidon Eric, 29, and Ekpu Godfrey, 44.
He said the suspects were arrested with two locally made pump action guns.
He said the arrest of the suspects followed several complaints by residents of high rate of kidnapping in the area.
The commander of the Corp added that the operatives achieved the feat in response to a distress call made by a woman.
Ibadin explained that the operatives who were on patrol were mobilized and subsequently combed the bush in the locality.
“We have had a series of complaints from Esan land about frequent kidnapping and other forms of criminality in the area. Following these complaints, men were mobilized to embark on patrol and bush combing in the area for three days ago.
“On our way to Esan land exactly at Ugoneki in the Uhunmwonde Local Governments area, I got a call from a distress lady who identified herself as Mrs Ufuha Rita crying for help that kidnappers are in her house to kidnap her.
“She spoke to us from her hiding place in Uromi, we drove down and rescued her, and put her in our vehicle. She said she knew the kidnappers. She, therefore, took us to their various houses at night to pick three of the seven suspects that came to kidnap her”, he said.
The Commander of the Corp, who, however, vowed that the state would be hot for other criminals unless they leave the state, added that the arrested suspects would be handed over to the Police for further investigations.
Ibadin said one of the suspects, Ekpu Godfrey, who confessed to having been involved in kidnapping in time past, claimed he had since stopped the criminal act.
