Transfer: Shame, I feel sympathy for him – Redknapp on Duran joining Al Nassr
Sky Sports pundit, Jamie Redknapp has said it’s a shame for Jhon Duran to leave Aston Villa for Al Nassr.
According to Redknapp, he feels sympathy for the 21-year-old Colombia international because he’s up against a top striker, Ollie Watkins at Aston Villa.
He said it’s a shame because there’s so much Duran can still do in the Premier League.
Duran is all set to join Al Nassr from Aston Villa after accepting a long term deal with the Saudi Pro League club.
Aston Villa will receive €77m fixed fee plus add-ons from Al Nassr for the forward’s signature.
Speaking on the Transfer Show, Redknapp also said that it’s a big opportunity for Duran because he’s going to work with Cristiano Ronaldo at Al Nassr.
“I feel a little bit of sympathy for Jhon Duran at Villa because he’s up against a top striker. It’s very difficult to get someone like Ollie Watkins out of the team; he scores, he assists – he’s a very important player for them,” Redknapp said.
“Everyone is going to have a view on him going. It wouldn’t be for me. At that age, I wouldn’t have wanted to go. But I totally get it if it’s going to change his family’s life, if he’s going to earn vast amounts of money. In three or four years’ time, he can come back to the Premier League.
“It’s very easy for people to judge in these situations and say he shouldn’t do this, he should go to another league. But, financially, he’s going to make his family’s lives so much better. The money we are talking about is astronomical.
“It’s a shame because you feel there’s so much he can do in this league, but he’s going to go and work with Cristiano Ronaldo and it’s a big opportunity.”
