Eddie Murphy to Play Retired Superspy in Action Comedy Movie Blue Falcon
Eddie Murphy has been tapped to play a retired spy in Sony Pictures’ Blue Falcon.
Blue Falcon is a new action comedy movie written by Chad St. John. A director is not yet attached to the project.
Per Deadline, Murphy will “play a retired superspy who heads for the destination wedding of his estranged son” who then finds himself in “proximity with his archrival” in Blue Falcon.

Further plot details remain under wraps at this time. No other casting has yet been announced beyond Murphy.
Murphy is producing the film alongside Charisee Hewitt-Webster through Eddie Murphy Productions, while Davis Films’ John Davis and Syndicate Entertainment’s Cliff Roberts also serve as producers.
Chad St. John previously worked the screenplays for the 2012 The Punisher: Dirty Laundry shot film, 2016’s London Has Fallen, 2018’s Peppermint, and 2018’s Replicas. He also wrote the screenplay for Motor City, a new Potsy Ponciroli movie starring Alan Ritchson, Pablo Schreiber, Shailene Woodley, and Ben Foster. A release date for that movie has yet to be announced.
Murphy made his Hollywood film debut in 1982 with 48 Hrs. He then went on to play Detective Axel Foley in 1984’s Beverly Hills Cop, which was followed by three sequels: 1987’s Beverly Hills Cop II, 1994’s Beverly Hills Cop III, and, most recently, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.
Murphy was nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award in 2007 for his performance in Dreamgirls. He also won the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series in 2020 for hosting Saturday Night Live and the 1984 Best Comedy Album Grammy Award for Eddie Murphy: Comedian.
While he voices the Donkey character in the Shrek franchise, his filmography additionally includes 1988’s Coming to America, 1998’s Dr. Dolittle, 2003’s The Haunted Mansion, 2011’s Tower Heist, 2019’s Dolemite Is My Name, and more.
A release date for Blue Falcon has not yet been announced by Sony Pictures.
