Man chops off wife’s wrist over alleged infidelity

Enugu State Police Command has arrested 33-year-old Sunday Echege of Ibagwa-Agu Farm Settlement in Ibagwa-Ani community, Nsukka LGA, Enugu State, for cutting off his wife’s left wrist over alleged infidelity.

This was contained in a statement by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, on Tuesday in Enugu.

Ndukwe said the arrest was made possible with the assistance of law-abiding members of the community and the machete used in committing the crime was recovered from the suspect.

The police image maker said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, who has confessed to the crime, claimed he acted out of suspicion that his wife, Chinonso Echege, was involved in extramarital affairs.

The suspect, according to him, would be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Meanwhile, the State Police Commissioner, Kanayo Uzuegbu has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, CID, to ensure a thorough and timely investigation, followed by the prosecution of the suspect.

The commissioner further advised couples to resolve their differences through love, understanding, and legal means, rather than resorting to violent criminal acts.
