Obalodo of Oye-Ekiti tasks youths on Peace, unity

The Obalodo of Oye-Ekiti Kingdom, Bamitale Oguntoyinbo has charged members of the Oye-Ekiti Youth Association to always promote peace, unity and development of the ancient town.

Oguntoyinbo, a former Ekiti State Director of the National Orientation Agency, NOA, gave th charge when the leadership of the Association paid homage in Oye-Ekiti.

The visit was sequel to the meeting held by the association members in Ilodo quarters in Oye-Ekiti on Sunday, where Obalodo also urged the youths to shun all acts of violence or crime that could tarnish the image of their respective families and the Oye community at large.

Oguntoyinbo commended the association for being upright, focused and determined to move Oye-Ekiti forward by cooperating with the Oloye, the apex Oye Progressive Union, and the entire community.

According to him, the community can only attain greatness in the atmosphere of peace.

Chief Oguntoyinbo, also a former chairman of Oye Local Government, therefore used the forum to call on Oye sons and daughters, within and outside to assist the qualified youths of the community in the areas of employment opportunities, both in the public and private sectors.

He appealed to the youths to be hardworking and assist the law enforcement agencies and the government at large to track down criminals in the community.

He called on the youths to rally around to see that the only unique cultural and traditional festival in the community, ”Oro Oye, or Ode festival, which is as old as Oye kingdom, is not allowed to go into extinction.

He pointed out that governments all over allow freedom of religion and encourage traditional festivals, provided it does not involve human sacrifice.

The Obalodo of Oye kingdom being the chief priest of Ode festival, promised to work hard to see the festival listed amongst the festivals in Ekiti by the Bureau of Arts and Culture and promote it to gain state and international attention.

The youths commended Obalodo’s outstanding roles in providing job opportunities for Oye sons and daughters and promised to work with him to see that Ode cultural festival in Oye-Ekiti is modernised to grow to an enviable standard to promote the cultural heritage of Oye community
