Transfer: Ferdinand fears Amorim is set to make mistake
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has expressed concern that manager Ruben Amorim may make a transfer mistake in the final week of the ongoing January window.
More players are expected to leave Manchester United after the Red Devils loaned Antony to Real Betis.
The likes of Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, and Casemiro are all rumored to be attracting interest as the January transfer window nears its close.
Garnacho has been linked with moves to both Chelsea and Napoli.
However, Ferdinand does not understand the reasoning behind Amorim and Manchester United potentially selling Garnacho.
According to Ferdinand, the Argentine international is one of the few “impactful” attackers in Amorim’s squad.
When asked if he was surprised Garnacho could leave Manchester United in the coming days, Ferdinand told TNT Sports: “I am. Where’s that spark coming from in this team?
“He probably doesn’t fit the profile of player that Ruben Amorim is used to having there. Alejandro Garnacho is an out-and-out winger, but he’s definitely someone who makes an impact. He will have an impact on the game and create something wherever he plays.
“The kid normally finds a way to make an impact, and he’s come through the academy. Because of the financial rules, clubs are being incentivized to sell homegrown talent, and that should never be the case.”
He added, “In terms of creativity, Manchester United need to improve. Ruben Amorim needs to find a way to get more out of the attacking players.”
