EPL: Sanchez is far from where I want him to be – Maresca

Chelsea manager, Enzo Maresca has said that goalkeeper, Robert Sanchez is far from the level he wants him to be.

According to Maresca, the Spain international has alot of improving to do in his display for the Blues.

Sanchez has been reinstated as Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper since the arrival of Maresca last summer.

He has endured a mixed season in between the sticks and has made four errors leading to goals in the Premier League, a total only bettered by Ipswich Town goalkeeper Arijanet Muric.

“He is getting better but he is still far, far, far from where I want him to be,”Maresca said about Sanchez at his pre-match press conference ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League tie with Manchester City on Saturday.

Asked about the jeers Sanchez was recently subjected to by Chelsea fans, Maresca added:

“That is not very good for his confidence, but also Robert is a professional who has to learn to deal with that kind of moment.

“It’s experience for him. He has to improve also to deal with that kind of moment during a game at home where the fans, for any reason, are not happy. He has to manage that moment.”
