Man arraigned for attempted rape of 12-year-old girl in Kaduna

A chief magistrate court in Kaduna state has directed the detention of Nibras Isah, a 36-year-old man, for allegedly trying to sexually assault his neighbor’s 12-year-old daughter.

The accused allegedly carried out the offense on January 19, at his home in the Ungwan Sanusi region of the state.

On Monday, the prosecutor, Chidi Leo, informed the court that the suspect contacted the victim to buy a recharge card for him while she was walking by his residence.

Leo mentioned that Isah secured the door and attempted to assault the minor after she delivered the recharge card to his room, but the victim’s screams drew the attention of neighbors, who demanded he unlock the door.

The prosecutor highlighted that the crime violated the Kaduna state Penal Code of 2020, stating that the defendant tried to flee after opening the door, but was caught and brought to the police station.

Ibrahim Emmanuel, the magistrate, did not accept the plea from the accused and instructed that he be held in a correctional facility while awaiting legal guidance from the state’s director of public prosecutions.

Emmanuel postponed the case to February 27 for additional hearing.
