EPL: He’s not Osimhen, Kane – Hargreaves defends Arsenal’s Havertz

Former Manchester United midfielder, Owen Hargreaves has defended Kai Havertz amid the increasing calls for Arsenal to sign a new striker before the January transfer window closes.

Arsenal are keen to sign a new striker this month and have been linked with Galatasaray’s Victor Osimhen, Wolves’ Matheus Cunhas and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.

Havertz has suffered criticism over his display for the Gunners in recent weeks despite scoring 14 goals in all competitions for the Gunners so far this season.

The German was on target as the Premier League North London club defeated Dinamo Zagreb 3-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

However, Hargreaves insisted that Havertz is not Galatasaray’s Victor Osimhen or Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane.

He, however, labelled the former Chelsea player as ‘brilliant’ option for Mikel Arteta’s side.

“Everybody goes on about Kai being a centre forward,” Hargreaves said on TNT Sports.

“I love him, I know he’s not a striker but he gives you so much.

“He has great awareness, he’s so patient. He’s got great awareness, he’s got great size, you can play off him as a 10, he can set people up.”

He added, “I think he gives you so much. I know he’s not Osimhen or Harry Kane but actually he shouldn’t be your main striker but he is a brilliant option.”
