FBI: CIA Spin-off in the Works at CBS, Backdoor Pilot to Air This Spring

FBI: CIA, a spin-off of the show FBI, is in the works at CBS.

Per Deadline, casting is underway for the three series leads. These characters will appear in an episode of FBI set to air this spring. The episode will serve as a backdoor pilot. If picked up by CBS, FBI: CIA is targeting a series order for 2025-2026.

FBI: CIA’s logline reads: “A dedicated, strait-laced FBI agent and a street-smart CIA agent are part of a new, clandestine taskforce charged with solving and preventing domestic terrorism in and around New York City.”

Who is involved in FBI: CIA?

FBI: CIA will be written by Dick Wolf, David Hughes, Nicole Perlman, and former CIA officer David Chasteen. Executive producers include Wolf, Hudgins, Perlman, Chasteen, and Peter Jankowski. The series will be produced by Universal Television and CBS Studios.

Created by Wolf and Craig Turk, FBI is a police procedural about the New York offices of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The series stars Missy Peregrym and Zeeko Zaki as Agents Maggie Bell and Omar Adom “OA” Zidan. Premiering in 2018, FBI is currently on its seventh season and returns to CBS on January 28, 2025.

The FBI franchise has spawned several spin-offs. FBI: Most Wanted is in its sixth season and follows the Fugitive Task Force and its efforts to track nefarious criminals on the Most Wanted list. FBI: International is in its fourth season and centers around the FBI’s International Fly Team in Europe.

Wolf is best known for creating the Law & Order franchise. Law & Order, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and Law & Order: Organized Crime are still airing on NBC. Wolf is also the lead creative behind NBC’s Chicago franchise, which features Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med.
