Police arrest suspected cultists over attempted murder of a rival member

Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested two suspected cultists for alleged attempted murder of one Egiegbor Lucky, 29, a rival cultist in the state.

It was reported that the suspects identified as Aigbomian Daniel, 20, and Innocent Okiomisi 32, are members of Eiye Confraternity.

It was gathered that the duo reportedly shot at the victim with an intention to kill him.

The Public Relations Officer of the Command, Moses Yamu, who confirmed the incident said the suspects are currently in the police custody.

Yamu said the suspects during investigation confessed to being a member of a secret cult.

He said one locally made pistol and one live cartridge were recovered from the suspect, adding that the suspects would soon be charged to court.

It was gathered that the suspects were arrested by the operatives of the Irrua police station, Esan Central local government area, where the incident happened.

A source who spoke on condition of anonymity added that the incident happened on January 14, 2025, when the suspects trailed the victim and shot at him.

He said, the victim, who is also a cult member, was shot in his right hand by the suspects.

“The suspects absconded after firing the shot thinking he was dead.

“The victim, who was not aware that he was being trailed narrowly escaped being killed by the suspects. He, however, reported the incident at the police station at Irrua.

“The shooting of the victim was as a result of a fight between rival groups in the area,” he said.
