Cameron Diaz & Jamie Foxx’s Back in Action Scores Netflix Record Debut
Viewers have truly tuned in for Cameron Diaz’s highly anticipated return in Back in Action, as the action comedy has debuted at No. 1 on Netflix’s Top 10 English movie list across over 80 countries.
The spy flick saw Diaz’s return to the big screen for the first time since Annie, The Other Woman, and Sex Tape debuted in 2014. Appropriately titled Back in Action, the film — which also stars Jamie Foxx — follows the two stars as a married couple leading a double life. It was initially set for a November 15, 2024 release before being pushed to January 17, 2025.
How well did Back in Action perform in Netflix’s streaming charts?
Diaz and Foxx have proven to be a powerful duo, with Back in Action garnering the most views in a premiere weekend for an English film with a total of 46.8 million views, according to Netflix. It’s a massive feat not only for the movie but also for Netflix at large, as it has surpassed The Adam’s Project’s then-undefeated record.
Trailing behind Back in Action are two The Secret Life of Pets features, with another Diaz’s flick — the 2010’s Knight and Day opposite Tom Cruise — making it to No. 4 with 5.2 million views.
The film also stars Andrew Scott (All of Us Strangers) as Baron, Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights) as Chuck, Glenn Close (Fatal Attraction) as Ginny Curtis, Jamie Demetriou (Barbie) as Nigel, McKenna Roberts (Skyscraper) as Alice, and Rylan Jackson (Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves) as Leo. It is directed by Seth Gordon (Baywatch).
“Years after giving up life as CIA spies to start a family, Emily and Matt find themselves dragged back into the world of espionage when their cover is blown,” the logline reads.
Back in Action is now available to stream on Netflix.
