Ondo: Five killed, many injured in another communal clash

A few days after two people were killed in a communal clash in Ondo State, five more persons were killed on Friday in a communal clash at a boundary community linking Akure and Idanre.

It was gathered that the indigenes of the two communities had long been laying claim to a disputed territory identified as Gbalegi.

Two people had earlier been killed on Monday in a communal clash that occurred in Iwaro, in the Akoko South West Local Government Area of the state, over an unresolved land dispute.

One source, who craved anonymity, stated that armed thugs in large numbers invaded the Gbalegi community, attacked residents, and killed the victims who tried to resist the attack.

After the deadly clash, the bodies of those killed were taken to a police station within the area before being transferred to the mortuary in Akure, the state capital.

While confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the State Police Command, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, disclosed that four people were killed and seven persons arrested in connection with the incident.

“The police, on receipt of the information, moved to the scene and arrested seven (7) people who were in possession of charms, seven single-barrel guns, a cache of live ammunition, and expended shells.

The police further combed the nearby bush areas and found four (4) corpses with bullet wounds,” she said.
